  • 2 min read

Google has recently announced an upgrade to its video editing capabilities within Google Drive, introducing a new shortcut button for Vids, the company's AI-powered video creation tool. This feature enables Workspace users to seamlessly initiate video edits using Vids directly from the Google Drive interface, streamlining the video editing process.

When previewing a video in Google Drive, users will now find an "Open" button in the top right corner, which launches the video in the Vids app. Vids automatically opens the video file, allowing users to make further edits such as trimming the clip, adding music, and incorporating text. This new shortcut is activated by default, indicating Google's efforts to integrate Vids more closely with its Workspace suite.

Launched last year, Vids aims to revolutionize video production by offering a range of features, including the ability to generate videos from basic text prompts, automatically craft scripts, rearrange video clips, add transitions, and more. This latest enhancement follows the introduction of another Gemini AI feature for Workspace users in May, which enables them to use AI to summarize video files stored in Google Drive.

Google's ongoing efforts to evolve and improve its offerings are evident in these recent updates. By providing feedback and sharing your perspective with TechCrunch and their coverage of events, you can contribute to the ongoing development and have the chance to win a prize in return.
