Unlocking Creativity with Quora's AI-Powered Poe API

  • 3 min read

Quora's AI platform, Poe, has recently unveiled an API that simplifies the integration of various AI models and bots into developers' applications. This groundbreaking move enables seamless access to a diverse range of AI capabilities without the need for additional fees. Instead, usage is tracked through Poe's point-based subscription plans, where each model call is assigned a specific number of points.

For instance, generating a low-quality image using GPT-4o in a 1:1 aspect ratio and 1024 x 1024 size would consume 328 points. Poe offers a range of subscription plans to cater to different needs and budgets. These include a $4.99 per month plan with 10,000 points per day, a $19.99 plan with 1 million points per month, a $49.99 plan with 2.5 million points per month, a $99.99 plan with 5 million points per month, and a $249.99 plan with 12.5 million points per month.

Developers can also purchase additional points at a rate of $30 for 1 million tokens. Unlike fixed packages, this flexible approach allows customers to pay any amount and receive tokens based on the set rate. The API empowers developers to enhance tools like Cursor, Cline, Continue, Roo, and others that are compatible with OpenAI chat completion APIs. Currently, Poe provides access to over 100 models across voice, text, image, and video generation.

These multimodal models include a variety of advanced AI capabilities such as Imagen 4, GPT Image 1, Flux Kontext, Seedream 3.0, Veo 3, Runway Gen 4 Turbo, Kling 2.1, ElevenLabs, and Lyria. Poe's product lead for creators and developers, Gareth Jones, shared with TechCrunch that they are working on allowing developers to use private bots built on Poe through the API and are considering better key management for the API product.

While the API focuses on providing developers with access to diverse AI models, Poe also offers tools for consumers. Earlier this year, the company introduced a new method for users to easily create AI-powered apps. Additionally, Poe provides templates for building server bots, prompt bots, and image generation bots.

Currently, developers are required to manually select and manage model usage. Jones mentioned that the company plans to consider adding budget management functionality in the future, based on feedback from developers. With the introduction of this API, Quora's Poe platform is set to revolutionize the way developers and consumers interact with AI-powered applications.
