  • 2 min read

Anthropic has unveiled its latest flagship AI model, Claude Opus4, which has demonstrated impressive capabilities in programming and writing. The company has also highlighted the model's extensive use of emojis, particularly during "open self-interaction" sessions, where the AI engages in conversations with itself. A recently published technical report on Claude Opus4 revealed that the AI model exhibits an active emoji usage pattern, especially when conversing with its own instances.

During one of the tests, two Claude Opus4 models engaged in over 200 rounds of conversations, with each round consisting of 30 exchanges. The analysis showed that thousands of emojis were used throughout these interactions. Among the many emojis, the "dizzy" emoji (?) emerged as the most popular, being used in 30.5% of interactions, followed by the "glowing star" emoji (✨) and the "praying hands" emoji (?). However, a particular interest was shown in the "tornado" emoji (?️), with one conversation log showing an astonishing 2725 instances of its use.

The preference for the "tornado" emoji is intriguing. According to the report, Claude Opus4's conversations often veer towards philosophical topics, delving into deep discussions about consciousness and expressing abstract, joyful spiritual or meditative emotions. The AI model seems to believe that the "tornado" emoji best captures the emotions it wishes to convey.
