Greptile, a promising AI-powered code review startup, is reportedly raising a Series A funding round worth $30 million at a valuation of $180 million. The round is being led by Benchmark partner Eric Vishria, as per sources close to the deal. However, it is worth noting that the deal hasn't been finalized yet, and terms may change.
Founded by Dasksh Gupta in 2023 after his graduation from Georgia Tech, Greptile went through Y Combinator's winter 2024 cohort. Following the completion of the program, the startup raised a $4 million seed round led by Initialized Capital.
Gupta explained that Greptile's AI-powered bot acts as an experienced coworker with a deep understanding of the customer's code. This enables it to identify bugs and potential issues that human reviewers might overlook. The code review space is highly competitive, with Greptile facing stiff competition from Graphite and Coderabbit.
Graphite, a key rival, raised a $52 million Series B earlier this year, led by Accel with participation from Anthropic's Anthology Fund, Menlo Ventures, a16z, and others. Coderabbit secured a $16 million Series A from CRV last year. The intense competition has pushed Greptile to require its staff to work exceptionally long hours.
In a viral post on Xin, the then 22-year-old Gupta admitted that Greptile "offers no work-life-balance." Employees typically work from 9 am until 11 pm, including Saturdays, and sometimes Sundays. Gupta explained that outperforming the competition demands maximum effort from every team member.
"If you’re going to put in 95 percent effort, it’s the equivalent of putting in 0 percent effort," Gupta said in an interview with Inc. Regardless of the work culture, attracting an A-list VC like Benchmark at a healthy Series A valuation could prove beneficial for Greptile's journey.
Neither Greptile nor Benchmark responded to requests for comment on the funding round.
