Hodkasia observed that when users edit their AI prompts, Meta's servers assign a unique number to the prompt and its corresponding AI response. By manipulating this unique identifier through network traffic analysis, he was able to access prompts and responses meant for other users, indicating a severe authorization flaw.

Meta swiftly responded to this revelation, deploying a fix on January 24, 2025. Fortunately, no evidence of malicious exploitation was found, a relief in the world of cybersecurity. Hodkasia's discovery not only highlights the potential risks of "easily guessable" prompt numbers but also underscores the broader implications for user data privacy in AI-driven platforms.

The incident serves as a stark reminder that as tech giants rush to launch and refine AI products, they must not overlook the associated security and privacy risks. Meta AI's standalone app, which entered the market to compete with apps like ChatGPT, faced an initial backlash when some users mistakenly shared what they believed to be private conversations with the chatbot.
